Dear Clients & Colleagues:

A Change in the Wind
I don’t know if it is just my imagination, but I am sensing a shift these days.  People seem to be moving away from old ways of thinking, rejecting the "Orwellian" rhetoric of happy talk, and are actually beginning to take a long, hard look at the emerging facts regarding the environment, and our collective effects upon it.

Buildings Account for 1/2 of Our Energy Use
No one will argue with the fact that the cost of energy is going up.  We can all debate the reasons, but, the fact is that energy efficiency in building design is now an economic necessity, not just a tree hugger's pipe dream.  Environmentally-intelligent design is not a fad.  It is mechanical, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, lighting, and structural systems design working in concert within the architectural concept to create responsible solutions to what has become one of our most urgent issues.

Independence
On the 4th of July, 1976, the American Bicentennial, I placed the cornerstone of the Ohio Stone Cabin.  Beneath it lies a time capsule, with a dedication to “American Energy Independence”.  Three decades later, it is time to rededicate ourselves to this important and necessary cause.  We are a catalyst for change, and, together, we can influence the course of events.

With Regards,

Jeffrey L. Zucker,  LEED  AIA
