CATALYST Signs Contract With Nevada Tribe for Master Planning and Community Center Projects PRESCOTT, AZ– Nearly two years after Catalyst Architecture successfully completed preliminary planning and design work for the Moapa Bands of Paiutes, a Native American Tribe located 45 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada, the firm has signed two follow-up contracts with the tribal nation; one for master planning services for the greater Moapa community, and the other to provide architectural design services for the first element of the new community improvement plan to be constructed– a 4,000 square foot community center building. Based on tribal member input recieved
through a community-wide survey completed just prior to Catalyst's
initial design work in 2006, the new facilities and other amenities
desired by tribal members include a replacement gymnasium, a new social
services building, a new community center facility with an outdoor
swimming pool, as well as ritual and recreational type spaces such as
new outdoor basketball courts, softball fields, and pow-wow grounds. The 4,000 square foot community center building will include a kitchen and dining area for 50 people, traditional crafts rooms, an exercise room, a computer room, and administrative spaces. While not intending to pursue LEED certification from the USGBC, the tribe's directive is to make their new community center building as energy-efficient as possible.
